STORY
Kai-Yin Lo from Hong Kong is one of Asia’s international designer brands. Since the 1980’s, she has pioneered a semi-precious range of jewellery and accessories that melds the cultural heritages of East and West into original, contemporary and highly wearable and affordable designs.
A student of European History at London and Cambridge universities, she is the first Visiting Professor, Cross Culture, at Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design London. A well recognized curator and organizer of art and cultural events - at Asia Society New York and Hong Kong and at the British Museum, where she presented the landmark exhibition of modern Chinese artist Wu Guanzhong (1992), and a cross media installation by contemporary Chinese artist Xu Bing (2012). She also participated in a cross cultural presentation at the ‘One Belt, One Road’ travelling exhibition to four cities globally celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Hong Kong’s Return to China (2018).
As cultural historian she has written well-regarded books on the Chinese living environment, house and furniture and Song Dynasty ceramics.
Recipient of the Hong Kong Design Centre’s prestigious award, the” World’s Leading Chinese Designer” in 2007, Kai-Yin has also been awarded a Silver Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong Government (2009).
Her autobiography “Designing a Life - a Cross Cultural Journey” has been released in English and Chinese.

羅啟妍是亞洲最早蜚聲國際的品牌之一。其珠寶、配飾、陶瓷、生活精品設計深受讚賞，以「顏色寶石先驅」及「古物新蘊始創者」成名。羅氏早於上世紀80年代已率先於美國開創了以顏色寶石作為珠寶與飾物設計風格的先河，世界權威時尚編輯蘇絲‧曼格絲（Suzy Menkes）更盛讚羅氏引領珠寶設計時尚風向。
羅氏是富有想像力的珠寶設計師及歷史學者，擅於融匯東西方文化傳統精髓，活化與美化古代文物小件，其獨特的不對稱設計美學帶出嶄新的現代共鳴感與含義，將傳統古物融入日常生活的一部份，重新闡釋為極具原創性和使用價值的時尚佩飾。
羅啟妍設計品牌於80年代重磅進駐美國高端品牌專門店，包括Neiman Marcus、 Sake Fifth Avenue、Bergdorf Goodman及倫敦Harrods，隨後憑藉其世界品牌的影響力隆重入駐日本三越百貨Mitsukoshi及和光Wako。
羅氏於劍橋大學與倫敦大學研讀歐洲歷史，是將中國及亞洲文化設計推向國際市場的先驅。絲路系列作品靈感始於三千年絲綢之路，融合中東歐宗教及文化的標誌，於2017年參與慶祝香港回歸二十周年全球巡迴展覽，展現創意生態信念。
羅氏亦是中西文化交流的表率，她參與並策劃了多項重要藝術及文化展覽，包括：1992年中國藝術家吳冠中於大英博物館的里程碑個人展覽；2012年徐冰在該館的裝置展覽；2001年於紐約華美協進社《古承今襲–中國民間生活方式》展覽；2010年香港在上海世界博覽會的官方設計展；2012至2013年香港亞洲協會藝術/設計/創新題材系列展覽。
羅氏一直致力培育藝術與設計人才，自2004年起於紐約亞洲協會舉行羅啟妍藝術和文化專題系列講座，2014年起延續至香港舉行。同年，羅氏擔任倫敦中央聖馬丁藝術學院客席教授，促進跨文化研究、創意經濟、設計理念交流，並於2016年成為該校首位跨文化教授。此外，羅氏獲委任為北京清華大學及中央美術學院訪問教授、亞洲協會國際顧問及英國泰特當代美術館亞太收藏會委員。
羅氏共編輯了五本具影響力的著作，題材包括中國家具及民間生活環境以至宋瓷和香港設計文化，從歷史的角度演繹藝術、設計與文化。其自傳《羅啟妍回憶錄：設計人生–跨文化之旅》英文,及繁體及簡體中文版本亦已先後出版。
羅啟妍對設計界所作的傑出貢獻備受肯定，於2007年獲香港設計中心頒發《世界傑出華人設計師》大獎及2009年獲香港政府授勛《銀紫荊星章》。
